...with that, the Waterfront5k is back for 2017, after a short break for the Xmas and the New Years period.
And this evening the Waterfront5k was humming with 197 runners on the start line, possibly encouraged by the free event option we offered tonight.
We had an amazing 100 new participants for the season tonight, with 70 of them joining us for the first time ever - special welcome to those people, we hope you had a great run around the Wellington HArbour with us.
Excluding the new runners tonight we had 25 runners & walkers set Season or Lifetime Waterfront 5k PBs tonight - Congrats! (The conditions out there must have been somewhat favourable, even with the crowds everywhere!)
Top three Men on course tonight were Scott Russell in 15:44, ahead of Hiro Tani (by 4 seconds) and Ben Barry.
On the ladies side tonight top three were Rebecca Elliott in 18:30, ahead of Anna Stevens and Emma Bassett.
The first walker home was Joesph Antcliff in 33:06 and Daphne Jones was the first Women walker home in 37:45.
Congratulations to all who took part tonight we look forward to seeing you all again this summer
We hope the Pacers from Scottish were a motivation and helped you get through to a goal time. So thank you Stephen, Harry, Michael, Chan, Amanda & Jo for last nights efforts.
If you would like pacers of different times, let us know. and we will see what Scottish can arrange. They are planning to have at least 3 pacers most nights, and they will set the pace times based on requests (and who is available)
Also a big thanks to the Master Women from the Scottish Athletics for the help last night with registration and Finish line - it is greatly appreciated. (and with the volumes we had through last night, it was great to see we still we able to start just about perfectly on time)
We hope you enjoyed and loved the Free Waterfront5k that we offered last night, and if you were a newbie, we would love to see you back again sometime soon - the more numbers made the event more impressive and we had a great atmosphere out there on course, plus also before and after.
We would love to offer a free Waterfront5k every week, but at this stage that isn't Feasible, our costs need to be covered - but hopefully there might be some knowledge that we have gained from last nights event that could help us find a group of partners, supporters and sponsors that might in the long term allow us to do this. So, if you know of any local Wellington companies that have a strong wellness program for their staff and might also be interested in helping a wider group of Wellingtonians with their Health goals, please drop us an email (firstname.lastname@example.org)
If you have any feedback / questions on the results or the event in general - please feel free to drop us an email (email@example.com)
Again thank you all.
