Wellington really turned on the weather for tonight's Waterfront 5km Series - the 20th in this series. Hot and no wind made the Chicago drink afterwards very welcome. However, it made for a very busy waterfront. Most of Wellington seemed to be out enjoying a walk or a play on the waterfront.
66 keen runners and walkers participated, along with 35 school children who ran in our 5km event as part of the Cigna Round the Bays Kids fun run.
Leading everyone home was New Zealand 1500m champion Hamish Carson. His time of 14min 51sec (just 12 seconds outside the course record) was truly remarkable given the pedestrian congestion on the course. 4 runners broke 16min tonight - by far the best set of leading times in the series so far. Fiona Blackmore recorded an excellent 19min 43sec to be first female finisher. Terri Grimmett (32min 36sec) returned to the series and recorded a win in the walk.
A big thanks to the team from Wellington Scottish Athletics Club for the excellent officiating.
As always, a big thanks to our sponsors - Lifestyle Sports, Chicago Sports Cafe and Pak n Save Kilbirnie.
Next Tuesday, 23 December, will be our last race for 2014. We start again on 6 January. So come along next week and have that final blow out in preparation for a big feed on Christmas Day.
