Just 59 runners and walkers fronted for the 13th race in the Waterfront 5km series. Weather conditions were a bit challenging, with the Wellington northerly wind making an appearance. But at least the rain held off!
The field had some class tonight, in the form of NZ race walker Alana Barber. She walked the 5km in just 22min 11sec, and incredibly she was the fastest female overall - runners and walkers!! And winner of the race overall was Dougal Thorburn, last year's NZ marathon champion (16.13). He bet Ben Twyman, holting his remarkable sequence of 7 wins in a row.
A big thanks to the team from the Scottish Athletics Club's walking section for the excellent officiating.
And thanks to our sponsors - Pak n Save Kilbirnie, Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher, Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes, and Phil Proctor - the best massage therapist for runners there is!
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
