Weather conditions were almost ideal for the 2nd race in Waterfront 5km Series - a cool southerly wind to assist the run home. This helped attract 152 keen runners and walkers, boosted by a large group from the Wellington Firebirds junior cricket squad testing their fitness.
Leading everyone home was Ryan Woolley with a time of 16min 31sec, with Valentino Luna Hernandez just 8 sec behind. Sophie Dawson recorded an excellent 19min 39sec to be first female finisher, with Aubrey Begley 2nd. Terri Grimmett (30min 10sec) backed up last week's win with another win in the walk, a minute quicker than last week. Special mention to Max Young who recorded 19min 40sec, as he is only in year 5 at school.
A big thanks to the team from the Scottish Athletics Club's women's section (Rachael, Christine, Mandy, Kate, Emily, Sierra, Hinano) for the excellent officiating.
And thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (email@example.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
