94 runners and walkers fronted for the first Waterfront 5km in February, many using the event as preparation for AMI Round the Bays on 23 February. Weather conditions were fine and warm (as we should expect for February) but a decent Wellington northerly took the edge off times and certainly made for a tough last km.
Leading everyone home tonight was Tony Wolken, improving from last week's 2nd place in a time of 17min 22sec. He just dipped on the line ahead of Cathal Reilly. Lizzy Bunckenburg, in her first race in the series, won the women's race in a time of 19min 21sec. Fraser Samson (31min 6sec) was again the fastest walker with Barbara Morrison the fastest female walker in an excellent time of 32min 45sec.
A big thanks tonight to team from the women's section of Wellington Scottish Athletics Club (Rachael, Sierra, Christine, Charlotte, Hinano and Fiona) plus regulars Bob and Todd for the excellent officiating.
Also thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes. Thanks too to Phil Proctor for a coupe of vouchers for his great massage services.
