It was a beautifully fine night with a fresh northerly blowing just to make things a little difficult on the return journey. 92 runners and walkers completed the course and there were quite a few personal bests despite the conditions.
The competition was hot in the main race with a bunch of four fighting it out for the top honours. In the end it was Jason Waite prevailing over Peter Stevens in a time of 16:52. Peter was three seconds behind with Grant McLean and Mathew Rogers together a further five seconds back. Michelle Van Looy was the first woman home in 20:17. There were a good number of walkers competing. Fraser Samson took out the men's competition in 30:03 and Terri Grimmett the women's in 31:17.
A big thank you to the team from the Olympic Harriers: Andrea, Cathryn, Rob B, Tim, Tony, Graeme, Murray and Mark.
And thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (rolysmith2@hotmail.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
