5k Run - Male | 5k Run - Female | 5k Walk - Male | 5k Walk - Female |
Tonight was the calm after the storm. We had pretty much perfect race conditions and a good turn out of runners and walkers.
95 people crossed the finish line. We had Scott Pickering from ACC join us. Scott exceeded his expectations and ran a 22:54. He will have to come back soon to go sub 22.
Our course record holder Hamish Carson also made an appearance. Hamish is the 2013 Round The Bays Half Marathon winner and also holds the 2013 New Zealand Half Marathon title. He broke his own course record tonight and ran a very fast 14:42.
Making her first appearance of the season was Gabby O'Rourke who was our first female runner home. Gabby ran a 18:10 tonight.
John Roskvist is on a winning streak with the walkers. He was the first male home tonight in a season best of 30:23. Closely behind him was Terri Grimmett. Terri was the first female walker and her time was 30:33.
It is such a pleasure watching the participants of all abilities come along and challenge themselves. People come for different reasons and have different goals and the team at The Waterfront 5k are lucky enough to see all the hard work that goes into your goals and we are even luckier to be there to see you achieve them.
Thank you to our helpers from Wellington Scottish Athletics. We had the Masters Men on board tonight so we have them to thank for the efficient and friendly help. Thank you to our regular helpers. Daryl, Don, Bob and Paul.
And thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes.
Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (rolysmith2@hotmail.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
