85 keen runners and walkers fronted for the first Lifestyle Sports Waterfront 5k of the new season. It was great to see so many competitors from the last series return, plus a lot of new faces.
The strong northerly wind made for a tough last km, but some excellent times were still posted. There are clearly some runners that have used the 4 month break between series to get a lot fitter. Well done.
Leading everyone home was Michiel Kallenberg with a time of 17min 7sec, just 4sec in front of 17 year old Matt Croxford. Michele Allison was the first female finisher with a time of 21min 1sec, 17sec in front of her sister Bernie Portenski. Sean Lake (31min 44sec) and Jacqueline Wilson (35min 21sec) won the men's and women's walk respectively.
A big thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (email@example.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
And thanks to the team from Wellington Scottish Athletics Club's Masters Men section for the excellent officiating.
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
