157 runners and walkers fronted for the Waterfront 5km Series on 2 April, the final race in this series. Numbers were boosted by 42 students from the New Zealand Institute of Sport, testing themselves over 5km. It was fantastic to have them along.
Weather conditions were again very good - fine and warm with a light wind. What great weather we have had throughout the series! The series now takes a break before returning for the next series in August.
Thank you for supporting the series. Wellington Scottish Athletics Club has enjoyed putting on the series for you. If you are keen to keep your running going during the winter, come along and check out the Scottish club. We have just started our 2013 season. If you would like to run or walk on a Saturday afternoon with like minded people, or perhaps improve your speed and fitness, come along and try the club out. All abilities catered for! Follow this link to the club's promotional flyer: http://scottishathletics.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Scottish-flyer-MARCH-2013_FINAL.pdf Come along for a no obligation group run / walk at 2pm on Saturday 6 and 13 April.
A big thanks tonight to Dan, Don, Hinano, Sierra, Emily, Rachael, Mandy, Martin and Bob from Wellington Scottish Athletics Club for the excellent officiating.
Leading everyone home tonight was Andrew Wharton in a time of 16min 40sec, 19sec ahead of Peter Stevens. Andrew is off to do the Boston Marathon in 2 weeks - good luck Andrew. Tonight shows he is in top form. Florence Reynolds made the most of a trip home to Wellington from her Auckland base to win the women's race in a time of 18min 48sec. Fraser Samson (31min 45sec) was again the fastest walker with Jacqueline Wilson the fastest female walker in 33min 6sec.
