114 runners and walkers fronted for the Waterfront 5km Series on 19 February. Weather conditions were very good (long may it continue!) - fine and warm. Although a bumper crowd of pedestrians plus a few dragon boaters coming out of the water made for a bit a zigzagging at times.
Leading everyone home was Michiel Kallenberg, a visitor to Wellington from Holland, in a time of 17min 10sec. Rebecca Keat was the fastest female, repeating her win from last month, recording a time of 18min 50sec. Terri Grimmett (31min 12sec) was back to win the women's walk, while Fraser Samson (33min 31sec) won the men's walk.
A big thanks to the team from the Scottish Athletics Club's women's section (Hinano, Tricia, Andrea, Jo, Emily) plus the great timekeeper Dan for the excellent officiating.
The first participation competition of the year finished tonight. Congratulations to all our spot prize winners, and thanks to Icebreaker for the great prizes. The second participation competition will be a draw for everyone who takes part in at least 3 of the 6 races from 26 Feb to 2 Apr.
Thanks also to our long standing sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (email@example.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
