Race report

124 runners and walkers fronted for the Waterfront 5km Series on 22 January. Weather conditions were very good (long may it continue!) - fine and warm. Although a bumper crowd of pedestrians made for a bit a zigzagging at times.

Leading everyone home was top NZ Masters runner Grant McLean in a time of 16min 49sec. Two weeks ago he finished 3rd, last week he was 2nd, and this week he claimed the win. Rebecca Keat was the fastest female, recording a time of 19min 1sec. Jackie Wilson (33min 30sec) recorded another win in the women's walk, while Geoff Iremonger (34min 38sec) won the men's walk.

A big thanks to the team from the Scottish Athletics Club's walking section (Terri, Bart, Daphne, Leeane, John L, David C, David L) plus the great timekeeper Dan for the excellent officiating.

We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. To help encourage you, there will be two participation competitions from now until the series finishes on 2 April with over $1000 worth of prizes up for grabs, sponsored by Icebreaker. The first participation competition will be a draw for everyone who takes part in at least 3 of the 7 races from 8 Jan to 19 Feb. The second one for those who take part in 3 of the 6 races from 26 Feb to 2 Apr.

Thanks also to our long standing sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (rolysmith2@hotmail.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
