117 runners and walkers fronted for the first race in Waterfront 5km Series for 2013. Weather conditions were very good, with a light northerly and lots of sun.
Leading everyone home was Cameron Goldsmid with a very impressive time of 15min 24sec. Fastest female was Rebecca Keat with a time of 19min 5sec. Jacqueline Wilson (33.49) and Ian Morton (33.18) were the leading walkers.
A big thanks to the team from Wellington Scottish Athletics Club (Leeane, David, Glenn, Daniel, Dan, Josh, Bart) for the excellent officiating.
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. To help encourage you, there will be two participation competitions from now until the series finishes on 2 April with over $1000 worth of prizes up for grabs. The first participation competition will be a draw for everyone who takes part in at least 3 of the 7 races from 8 Jan to 19 Feb. The second one for those who take part in 3 of the 6 races from 26 Feb to 2 Apr.
As part of this promotion we're delighted to have Icebreaker join our growing family of 5k sponsors. This follows their successful sponsorship of the Scottish 3 peaks series last year. Icebreaker will be providing $150 vouchers for each participation competition plus a number of spot prizes (like their great hats, gloves, arm warmers) each week to be drawn from the week's participants.
Thanks also to our long standing sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
