Race report

Just 68 runners and walkers fronted for the 18th race in Waterfront 5km Series. The northerly wind was one of the strongest the series has experienced, and clearly resulted in a number of people staying indoors. Rain showers made it particularly unpleasant for the Officials.

Leading everyone home was top athlete Dougal Thorburn in a great time of 15min 38sec. Dougal recently set a world record for pushing a baby buggy over 10km! Second was Tomas Bridgeman. Fastest female was Gabby O'Rourke, recording 18min 32sec. Jon Roskvist (31min 5sec) and Daphne Jones (38min 12sec) won the men's and women's walk respectively.

A big thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (rolysmith2@hotmail.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.

And a big thanks to the team from the Scottish Athletics Club's Masters Men's section for the great officiating in tiring conditions.

We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
