The 5km race tonight had 89 finishers in a reasonable wind (reasonable by Wellington standards). The fastest times were from newcomers to the event. In the menâ??s race an ex-, but fit-looking, Scottish member Tony Keith won in 16:56 and had a good race with Jason Waite right up to the line, 16:59. The womenâ??s race saw a visitor from France, Estelle Duran, 19:04, win comfortably from Tineke Berthelsen, 19:36. Estelle is visiting New Zealand and plans to qualify as life guard. In the walk, age prevailed over experience with Andrew Paton, 30:11, just ahead of John Roskvist, 30:13. The women were led home by Jacquie Wilson in 33:04.
A big thanks to our sponsors â?? in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you canâ??t get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email. She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
